Wednesday, 9/23 -> Mayer Hawthorne, 14KT, Buff 1 & DJ A-What at Larimer Lounge…Win free tickets below…

WEDNESDAY, 9/23 -> Normally I don’t promote shows I’m not spinning at or involved with, but the lineup for this show is RIDICULOUS and no one seems to be promoting it.  So anyways, Stones Throw’s latest signee and John Meyer/Justin Timberlake/Alicia Keys’ favorite new soul artist to talk about, Mayer Hawthorne, is coming out here on tour with Red Bull Big Tune 2008 finalist and beatmaker extraordinaire 14KT as well as critically acclaimed rapper Buff1.  All the cats from the tour are super dope and the homie DJ A-What is opening, should be a great show.  Tickets are only $10 but you can win a pair by being the first to send the name of Mayer Hawthorne’s DJ alias to contests@djlowkey.com.  Shouts to DJ Graffiti & A-Side Worldwide for the ticket giveaways.  Last but not least, check out the links below for a sample of the tour’s music, it won’t disappoint.  2721 Larimer St / Music at 10 / 21+.

Dunn The Street Sign Artist /// Win this Dilla piece below…

If you’ve been checking out the Solution lately, following Akomplice & their team, keeping tabs on the Denver art scene, checking out XXL (the bullet riddled Biggie pic from above was featured last year) or watching MTV then you’ve probably seen some super fresh painted signs like these. The signs are the work of the homey Dunn the Street Sign Artist, one of Denver’s most prominent up & coming artists. Make sure to check his site/myspace and stay tuned for a dope contest we’re about to launch next week to win the Dilla piece below.
Jigga & James Brown signs from his showing at the Car Wreck Crew Benefit last month at the Solution.

So I know I’ve been slackin on updating the site lately but that’s only because I’ve been busy in the real world, here’s what I’ve been workin on ——>

First off, the Median’s Relief In The Making mixtape (mixed by DJ Low Key & hosted by 9th Wonder) should be coming out soon. I know it’s been a long time coming, but I promise it’ll be worth the wait. It’ll be available to download for free here at djlowkey.com & at the every cheap rap fan’s favorite site rappersiknow.com.

After the Median tape drops, next comes Ilwil & DJ Low KeyBeat Thieves 1.5 (Ilwil=Ilyas + Donwill aka 2/3rds of Tanya Morgan). Ilyas and Donwill originally dropped Beat Thieves as a rapper mixtape a few years back, but in light of their recent Tanya Morgan shine decided to re-release an updated version with some new tracks and me on the mix. The original Beat Thieves was great and Don & Il have just been gettin better, so make sure to keep an eye out for Beat Thieves 1.5 over the next few months. Also, Mixing In Action #3 (hosted by Free Speech & Ro Blvd) will be coming towards the end of the summer, be on the lookout for that too.

Back in CO, things have been busy on the club scene. I’ve linked with Denver mainstay Firelily to get down at a dope new spot called Sengers (on E Colfax between Milwaukee & St. Paul) this Thursday, 5/24. The club’s interior is sick and they’ve got a dope patio, so don’t sleep. 21+///Doors at 9///$3 Cosmos, $2.50 Stoli Press & $2 Bud Select.

Speaking of dope patios, the Solution with DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme has moved upstairs to the Shelter’s RIDICULOUS rooftop patio for the summer and people are lovin it (you can catch us downstairs in the green room if it rains). Last Friday was packed, we had Never Summer artist Tree & his partner PZUS come through with some of their signature pieces for a showing that caught everybody off guard.

Next Friday, 6/1, we’ve got a sick double feature. As usual, we’re throwing the 400‘s First Fridays Afterparty (featuring the amazing Path One), so make sure you head over to 1010 Bannock between 7 and 10 to see the guaranteed dope art showing with free food & drinks plus the newest limited sneakers & gear. While you’re there, pick up a pass for the afterparty at the Solution, it’ll get you into the club for free plus get you a free drink. Then, head around the corner to the Shelter patio for the official afterparty, plus the Akomplice Season 6 Launch Party featuring a fashion show & performances by Akomplice sponsored artists Tonedeff & Copywrite as well as the same great music you always expect from me & Sounds Supreme.

As if that wasn’t enough, we’ve got acclaimed rapper Blu (Blu & Exile/Sound In Color) coming through to perform at the Solution on Friday, 6/8. His debut album, Below The Heavens, is the BEST record I’ve heard all year, hands down (buy it online 6/27 and in stores on 7/17). If you haven’t heard him yet, check out “Narrow Path” on my Mixing In Action #2 tape and prepare to be impressed.

Then on 6/15, don’t miss my birthday party (as well as the good homey Shannon’s birthday/going away party) featuring performances from the almighty Tanya Morgan (their debut album, Moonlighting, was ?uestlove from the Roots’ #6 album of 2006) & the infamous Che Grand (of Fixtape fame, 6,000+ heads have been fixed in a little over a month, download it now if you haven’t already). Needless to say, things are gonna be nuts every Friday at the Solution, so you know where to be from here on out. The Solution takes place every Friday night on the Shelter Patio (1037 Broadway). 21+///Doors at 9:30///E-mail thesolution@djlowkey.com with questions or for free/discount entry.

Also, don’t forget about my Saturday at Bar Luxe, Cherry Creek’s best kept secret. It’s gotta have the best vibe (check out the way it sounds on the Bar Luxe mixtape) of any Martini Bar in Denver, upscale but not pretentious, come see for yourself.

Last but not least stay tuned for a crazy contest I’m gonna be running next month with Strictly Fitteds, the #1 site for everything related to fitted hats. We’re gonna be giving away hundreds of dollars in gift certificates to boutique stores, some sick hats, all sorts of great music and more, so stay tuned…

Coming Soon->Mixtape with Median & 9th Wonder + Win Little Brother Tickets

It’s been a long time coming, but Median of the Justus League’s debut album, Relief, is finally set to drop this summer on Halftooth Records. From what I’ve heard, the album will be RIDICULOUS. With that said, Median and Halftooth were kind enough to hit me up to mix the promo mixtape for the album (guess they liked MIA #1). The free tape will feature a mix of new joints, older songs, remixes and guest appearances that will put even the most hardcore Justus League fans onto some new stuff. So stay tuned to the site for more info (and oh yeah, some dude named 9th Wonder is gonna host the tape). Also, Che Grand & DJ Low Key:The Fixtape should be dropping next week so keep an eye out for that.

In other DJ Low Key/JL news, I’ll be opening for Little Brother at the Fox Theatre on April 4th. I know how much y’all like free shit, so I got a few pairs of tickets to giveaway. E-mail contests@djlowkey.com with the names of the two MCs in Little Brother for a chance to win. If you’re not feeling so lucky, presales for the show are only $13 and I promise you it’ll be well worth it.
