The Further Adventures of Von Pea teaser & Che Grand – Breakfast at Wimbledon…

I’m spoiled, I’ll admit it.  I’ve been rockin the roughs of Von Pea’s new mixtape rapper tape project, The Further Adventures of Von Pea, nonstop since he sent it over and it’s INSANE.  I’m not gonna act like I’m not biased, but it’s always dope to hear a top notch MC spit on Madlib’s beats (plus I could never get too into the whole Quasimoto voice) and Von is SPITTIN (c) Aeon.  And make sure you check out the cover, it’s a strong contender for album art of the year.  Here’s the teaser, check it out and make sure you download the project over at VonPea.com on 11/11.

P.S. Don’t worry, this is still on it’s way.  Top of ’08 y’all.

And while we’re talkin Lessondary, make sure you check out Che Grand’s new project, Breakfast at Wimbledon (ZFTP Volume 7), over at his blog, ZFTP. It’s no Fixtape, but it’s still better than 99% of what’s out.

The homey Blu CRUSHING a freestyle for XXL…

Blu is that dude.  Easily one of the best new rappers to come out in years & a hell of a guy.  Check out this clip, his raps say it all.

Some Median & Kooley High video iddish…

The homey Halo just sent me some Median, Kooley High & Ill Digitz clips from the recent show they rocked with Little Brother & Inflowential in NC. I figured with our mixtape, Median’s Relief In The Making (hosted by 9th Wonder), still getting a few thousand downloads or so a month (after being out for a year plus & doing RIDICULOUS numbers on here & FWMJ’s infamous rappersiknow.com site) that some of y’all would wanna check out these clips of “Comfortable”, “Doing Dances” (w/a freestyle verse) & more. Enjoy, and of course, if you like what you hear then “put seven on it” (c) Median…

By request…Old School Jewels…A live DJ Low Key mix from 2003…

A good friend kept telling me I should post this live mixshow from a while back.  He’s been relentless and I like it too, so here it is, DJ Low Key – Live Mixshow #19 – Old School Jewels. For those that don’t know, about 6 or 7 years back I did series of live mixshows in conjunction with my homey DJ Petey for a live365.com radio station that’s long gone and this is one of the 32 themed mixshows I recorded. With this one, I wanted to do some kind of old school set that wasn’t the same standards that everybody plays (when was the last time you heard Paris on an old school tape?).  It’s 5+ years old, all wax & recorded live so it’s a little sloppier than what you guys are used to from me, but it’s got some character and hopefully it’ll either put you up on some slept on classics or you’ll hear some jams you hadn’t heard for a few years. Last but not least, big up Maria Urstad, that’s her exhibition with the boomboxes that I jacked the pic of above (no clue who she is, but the piece is super dope).  Anyways, here’s the link & the tracklist:

NC’s been busy lately…New iddish from Kooley High, Edgar Allen Floe & the Foreign Exchange…

If you’ve been checking out my mixtapes then I’m sure you know I’m a big fan of what’s been going on in North Carolina for the last 6 years or so. Little Brother & the Justus League paved the way for a ton of talented MCs/DJs/producers/singers/etc from NC to get some shine and lately a there’s been a bunch of free projects coming from some of these cats that I’ve been lucky enough to build with over the years. Here’s some links to a new comp from 9th Wonder proteges Kooley High (in collaboration with WYDU, ZillaSays & Ace Jones, check the explanation here), the prequel to Edgar Allen Floe’s (check out the track he recorded for my Mixing in Action #1 tape) upcoming Streetwise album and the sampler for Nicolay & Phonte’s new Foreign Exchange album, Leave It All Behind (one of my most anticipated albums in a loooooong time), set to drop on 10/14.

Kooley High – Burn After Listening

Edgar Allen Floe – The Road To Streetwise

The Foreign Exchange – Leave It All Behind Sampler & first single “Daykeeper”

And in case you were wondering what’s was up with my closest NC collaborator, Median, just know he’s been in the lab.  I’ve got some CRAZY new iddish from him, but I gotta keep it to myself for now.  All I gotta say about it is trust, Mixing In Action #3 is shaping up very well.

I know it’s late, but here’s the Blu & Exile x Che Grand clip if you missed it…

Look, I know how time flies on the internet and I know this clip is like 6 weeks old or whatever, but I was out on tour damnit. Anyways this shit is dope, the homey Che Grand and my boys Blu & Exile linked up at a show in NYC last month after Che had some technical difficulties during his opening set.  Big up Blu & Ex for continuing to prove they’re some of the coolest cats in the game and having Che come rock during their set.  Check the clip above, then make sure to download the Blu freestyle/Exile live on the MPC track below and definitely cop the Johnson & Jonson album, Everything’s Good Ugly & Exile’s Radio project when they hit stores in the coming months.

Blu & Exile – Freestyle live at S.O.B.s on 7/13/08

The holy grail of lost remixes/demos aka ATCQ/LONS “Scenario” demo w/De La Soul, Black Sheep & more…

I’ve been waiting to hear this for a loooooooooooooooong time and I know I’m not the only one. The homey Von Pea screamed like a car rolled over his foot the other day when he saw this and I’m sure he wasn’t the only one. Here it is, the legendary (well at least one of the) alternate version(s) of Tribe and LONS’ CLASSIC single “Scenario” with De La, Black Sheep & the JBs finally made it’s way online and hopefully you’re buggin’ out too. I was asking Rasta Root (who mixed the “Best of Tribe” mixtape where I first head this version mentioned) about it’s existence earlier this year and he mentioned that the only copy he knew of was on a tape at Posdnuos’ house. For some reason I doubt this rip came from Pos but check it out on some “holy grail of demos” iddish regardless, enjoy…

The Lessondary Nose…

If you’re keeping score then by now you probably know that Von Pea, Elucid, Che Grand & Spec Boogie recorded a super fresh track called “Lessondary Nose” to promote a show they threw last month NYC (it’s had the innanet going nuts for the last few weeks). Well, Von Pea and Donwill (from Tanya Morgan, who were headlining said show) ended up coming out here to Denver to kick it for my birthday party and due to Frontier Airlines’ HORRIBLE service (check Don & Von’s recaps) and the inefficientness of other airlines they ended up busting their ass & dropping mad cash to get home before rushing to get to their show in NYC as it was letting out early (CRUSHING I’m sure, sorry guys). Anyways, the rest of that show in NYC went well from what Che Grand tells me, Von & Don ended up playing a free show that weekend to make up for missing things everyone outside of NYC got this AWESOME song called “Lessondary Nose”. Check it out…

You’re killing ’em Ro Bully, our team is so fresh!!! Here’s a taste of the upcoming U-N-I x Ro Blvd album…

So my good friend/RIDICULOUS producer/radio prodigy/proud gumby supporter Ro Blvd is dropping an album called A Love Supreme with critically acclaimed duo U-N-I later this year (more on them in last week’s Okayplayer.com interview) and it’s time for a taste. Ro’s super focused and he’s been bringing his A-game, next level beats to the project while Thurzday & Y.O. sound even nicer on here than they did on their Fried Chicken & Watermelon mixtape from last year. “Supreme Song” is just the tip of the iceberg and I can’t wait for this album to drop (plus, stay tuned for more Ro Blvd x DJ Low Key collabs real soon). Also, word around LA is that monster MC Free Speech (no really, dude is like the size of the Hulk) has a “quotable of the month” level cameo on the album too. Don’t sleep on LA, there’s a CRAZY movement building steam out there as we speak.

And since we’re talking about Ro & my west coast fam, make sure you check out OurTeamIsFresh.com if you haven’t already, there’s a ton of free music from the crew & more.
