.:DJ Low Key – Basementalism Pledge Mix – 10/04/08:.

Here’s a mix I recorded for renowned college radio show Basementalism’s pledge drive a few weeks back.  It’s a 2-part, 32 track mix of big indie, college radio & classic hip hop records straight from my crates to you (yes, from my crates, no offense to my serato, but this mix is 100% wax). P.S. Please excuse the short instrumental breaks (they’re for the show’s talkin parts) and if you like what you hear, please do you part and help support Radio 1190 up in Boulder, they’re a fresh alternative to the generic top 40 stations that we’re all tired of.  Anyways, enjoy…

The Further Adventures of Von Pea teaser & Che Grand – Breakfast at Wimbledon…

I’m spoiled, I’ll admit it.  I’ve been rockin the roughs of Von Pea’s new mixtape rapper tape project, The Further Adventures of Von Pea, nonstop since he sent it over and it’s INSANE.  I’m not gonna act like I’m not biased, but it’s always dope to hear a top notch MC spit on Madlib’s beats (plus I could never get too into the whole Quasimoto voice) and Von is SPITTIN (c) Aeon.  And make sure you check out the cover, it’s a strong contender for album art of the year.  Here’s the teaser, check it out and make sure you download the project over at VonPea.com on 11/11.

P.S. Don’t worry, this is still on it’s way.  Top of ’08 y’all.

And while we’re talkin Lessondary, make sure you check out Che Grand’s new project, Breakfast at Wimbledon (ZFTP Volume 7), over at his blog, ZFTP. It’s no Fixtape, but it’s still better than 99% of what’s out.

Dope…Blu & Mickey Factz are on the cover of the new XXL…

Fresh off a surprise appearance at the Solution w/DJ Low Key & Sounds Supreme last Friday (audio of his live freestyles over Madlib – Beat Konducta 6 beats coming soon, in the meantime you can stream one of the tracks at myspace.com/djlowkey), Mickey Factz can be found alongside the homey Blu (who’s also performed at the Solution) & Corey Gunz on the cover of the new XXL. It’s the magazine’s yearly freshman ten issue and both Blu & Mickey are featured (B.O.B., who was at our Rock The Bells afterparty, is on there too).  Congrats guys, you deserve it and Denver, just another reason to be checking out the Solution every Friday night on the Funky Buddha’s Rooftop (776 Lincoln).  You gotta love the Solution, we’re the Colbert bump of rap (apparently…ahahahahaha).

So I’ve been listening to parts of U-N-I & Ro Blvd’s upcoming album, A Love Supreme…Here’s a quick rundown…

U-N-I & Ro Blvd’s A Love Supreme has become quite the anticipated album as word continues to spread about Thurzday, Y-O and Ro (especially since the MTV VMA Breakout Artist award). Recently, I was lucky enough to recently hear almost 20 minutes worth of snippets from the album courtesy of my good friend Ro Blvd (B Club, what!!!). Here’s a quick rundown of the work in progress that’s shaping up to be the focused effort yet from everyone involved and a hell of an album.  Disclaimer: These aren’t the real song names and the album is far from being finished.

Nicolay at the Red Bull Music Academy…And speaking of Nic, cop that FE album…

Everyone’s favorite almost 7 foot tall dutchman Nicolay was recently featured as a lecturer at the infamous Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona.  In the hour plus discussion he talks about dropping out of music school to his work habits for collabs over the internet to his variety of approaches for different albums and more.  And speaking of Nicolay, make sure you cop his new album with Phonte, Foreign Exchange – Leave It All Behind, it’s one of the best albums I’ve heard all year.

This might be the best surprise of the year…

Check out this screenshot of an e-mail I got a few days back that made my day…
And if you’re on Twitter & find me interesting enough to follow (like the LEGENDARY MC Hammer apparently does), check me out at twitter.com/djlowkey

The homey Blu CRUSHING a freestyle for XXL…

Blu is that dude.  Easily one of the best new rappers to come out in years & a hell of a guy.  Check out this clip, his raps say it all.

Some Median & Kooley High video iddish…

The homey Halo just sent me some Median, Kooley High & Ill Digitz clips from the recent show they rocked with Little Brother & Inflowential in NC. I figured with our mixtape, Median’s Relief In The Making (hosted by 9th Wonder), still getting a few thousand downloads or so a month (after being out for a year plus & doing RIDICULOUS numbers on here & FWMJ’s infamous rappersiknow.com site) that some of y’all would wanna check out these clips of “Comfortable”, “Doing Dances” (w/a freestyle verse) & more. Enjoy, and of course, if you like what you hear then “put seven on it” (c) Median…

Saturday, 10/4 -> Catch me spinning on Basementalism’s pledge drive…Here’s a sample of my mix for it…

SATURDAY, 10/4 -> Catch me spinning on CO hip hop staple Basementalism’s pledge drive (please support college radio y’all) from 4-5 on Radio 1190. I have to spin at Guess & can’t be in the studio live, so my set is prerecorded for the first time in 6+ years of spinning guest spots on the show. Anyways, here’s the first half & tracklist, I’ll post up the second half after the show airs. And by the way, for anyone who cares, the whole set is all wax on some classic iddish.

By request…Old School Jewels…A live DJ Low Key mix from 2003…

A good friend kept telling me I should post this live mixshow from a while back.  He’s been relentless and I like it too, so here it is, DJ Low Key – Live Mixshow #19 – Old School Jewels. For those that don’t know, about 6 or 7 years back I did series of live mixshows in conjunction with my homey DJ Petey for a live365.com radio station that’s long gone and this is one of the 32 themed mixshows I recorded. With this one, I wanted to do some kind of old school set that wasn’t the same standards that everybody plays (when was the last time you heard Paris on an old school tape?).  It’s 5+ years old, all wax & recorded live so it’s a little sloppier than what you guys are used to from me, but it’s got some character and hopefully it’ll either put you up on some slept on classics or you’ll hear some jams you hadn’t heard for a few years. Last but not least, big up Maria Urstad, that’s her exhibition with the boomboxes that I jacked the pic of above (no clue who she is, but the piece is super dope).  Anyways, here’s the link & the tracklist:
