.:Jermiside & DJ Low Key – Die Jerm Die:.

It’s been a minute since Jermiside (of Red Giants/Lessondary fame) first hit me up to help him out with his Die Jerm Die mixtape…I’d known dude for a while via Tanya Morgan (he was on a song on Moonlighting & two on Brooklynati), featured him on my Mixing In Action #2 tape back in ’06 and we’d kicked it for a minute on the Hiero tour so it was a no-brainer to get involved…Jerm’s concept for the tape was a lot darker than most stuff I work on (the title says it all…LOL), but it was appropriate for the times and the music was really dope so I put it all together in a way that hopefully tells a story and wraps up on a positive note, check out the tape for yourself and see what you think…

Che Grand’s Everything’s Good Ugly is out now!!! Cop that shit!!!!!

Che Grand is a RIDICULOUSLY talented rapper and good friend (how else could we argue so much and still be down…LOL).  I’ve known dude for a little over three years and he’s been prepping his official debut, Everything’s Good Ugly, the whole time.  In fact, right around the time I met Che he actually completely scrapped Conceptus Opus, his original debut album, and started from scratch on EGU.  It’s been long trip, complete with numerous holdups, adversities and delays; so much so that Khal over at Rock The Dub even started a petition to get the album released earlier this year.  Well Che, all of the hard work and patience has paid off. Everything’s Good Ugly is one of the best releases I’ve heard all year and the overwhelmingly positive praise has been coming in from all over.  If you’re on my site, hopefully you already know Che and you’re sold on his music from our ’07 collaboration, Limited Edition:The Fixtape, but if not, head over to itunes and check out some samples of EGU before you cop it, you won’t be disappointed.  Last but not least, check out the tracklisting, production credit & latest single, “Gold Chains (Part Deux)”, below and stay tuned for more DJ Low Key/Che Grand collabs in the near future.

P.S. make sure you download Che Grand & DJ Low Key – Limited Edition:The Fixtape over in the mixtapes section if you haven’t already. It’s the official Che Grand late pass, the perfect addition to EGU & a damn good rapper tape if I do say so myself…LOL.  And  oh yeah, gotta shout out my boy Ryan over at Rype Arts, dude did both the EGU and Fixtape covers, check out more of his great work at RypeArts.com.

SATURDAY, 7/25 -> Frank151 #37:The De La Soul Chapter Release Party at So Damn Down w/DJ Low Key at Shag

SATURDAY, 7/25 -> Come get a complimentary copy of the Frank151/De La Soul issue at So Damn Down w/DJ Low Key at Shag (830 15th St). We’re gonna be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of 3 Feet High & Rising by playing a ton of Native Tongues joints throughout the night (everything from Tribe to De La to Queen Latifah to the Beatnuts & more) & giving away copies of Frank151 #37 aka the De La Soul issue to the first 50 people.  As a HUGE De La fan, I can’t recommend this issue enough, check some samples below & come out early to get your copy at So Damn Down.  No cover / Music at 10 / 21+.

Rap De Rap Show: In this article, Dante Ross discusses his relationship with De La. “I will never forget the first show De La Soul ever did, however blurry the exacting facts surrounding the event are. I recently caught up with my brethrens—the De La Souls themselves—verified some of the hazy parts, and got my info fine-tuned. Here’s the 411. De La was the first group I was ever given the A&R responsibility for…whatever that means. Back then, it meant being the groups cheer leader / road manager / dude in the office they hung with. It mostly meant we made it up as we went along.”

Tasty Samples: “Everyone has their passions in life. For Maseo, it’s clearly music, and more specifically DJing and producing. For Jarobi White, original member of A Tribe Called Quest, it’s cooking. Frank151 got them together to ask a few questions about their respective passions, and to learn about their inspirations and influences. Speaking with these two old friends, it’s immediately apparent that they go way back and have a deep mutual respect. But most of all, they just crack each other up.”

Donwill as Don Cusack in High Fidelity tracklist…Check track 5…

Donwill of Tanya Morgan has a dope new project he’s working on.  It’s called Don Cusack in High Fidelity, check out the tracklist below. As far as what the album’s about, I’ll let him tell it:

The album ‘Don Cusack in High Fidelity‘ is a remake of the movie ‘High Fidelity‘ (starring John Cusack). It is one of my favorite movies of all times. I feel that the movie has alot of parallel’s to my personal life, so many that I’ve decided to cast myself in the role of Rob Gordon (Cusack’s character) for the duration of this project.

And here: Don Cusack is almost done and in honor of letting people in on the process to sneak a glimpse at the work in progress I put together a short snippet tape. You know just so you can see where I’m at and help motivate me to finish this damn thing. Its not all the songs from the album or nothing like that, just 5 of the joints that were the most finished.

As for the project being done, who knows. Sometime soon tho so that I can start finish my work with Von Pea and Brickbeats. More than anything it just needs to be mixed down at this point and there are a few people im still waiting on to finish a few songs but I wont name names… YET!

So here we go! The bold joints are the ones that are on the snippet tape. I didnt wanna give TOO much away but I wanted to let yall hear something. I decided to include the tracklist as it stands right now including features and producers for people who are into that sort of thing. Oh and the album is split into 2 parts. If that doesnt make sense then you dont know me or this project at all. Regardless I will be explaining it at a later date. Just enjoy this for now…

Please vote Low Key in the 2009 Westword Music Showcase…Voting ends today at noon…

UPDATE: Voting ends on Monday, June 15th at noon MST. Please vote before then if you’re gonna vote.  Thanks again.

Yep, it’s Westword Music Showcase time and guess who’s nominated again (shouts to the nominating committee, I appreciate the recognition & Westword, Denver’s premier music/arts/entertainment magazine).  Last year, y’all blew me away and voted me Denver’s “Best Hip Hop DJ”, thanks again, you’re the shit.  And while I’ve never been foolish enough to think I’m the best DJ out of a field that includes heavyweights like Vajra, Chonz, Cysko Rokwel, Bedz & more, I’ll be geeked if you wanna vote for me again as I try to become the first back to back “Best Hip Hop DJ” winner yet.

The voting process is easier than ever and you can find the “DJ – Hip Hop” category towards the bottom.  Thanks again y’all, I appreciate the support.  And if you decide not to vote for me, I can’t be too mad, almost everyone nominated is a dope DJ and a friend of mine, props to all the good DJs around town.

The homie Dunn the Signtologist on Common’s blog b/w Dunn’s DJ Low Key piece…

I gotta congratulate my boy Dunn the Signtologist for getting props on Common’s blog last week, dude definitely deserves the shine.  We’ve done quite a few events together over the years and I’ve mentioned him on here before, so hopefully you’re familiar.  If not, you should head over to his site ASAP and get caught up on one of the most creative cats I know.

Last but not least, Dunn laced me & Sounds Supreme with pieces to celebrate the 2 year birthday of the Solution back in February (thanks again Dunny, we’re honored), check out my piece below.
