Exile is the man…Videos, interviews, music & a mix for Red Bull Music Academy Radio to prove it…

So Exile (of Below The Heavens, Emanon & Dirty Science fame) has a CRAZY album called Radio coming out on January 20th.  The whole project was made with samples Ex recorded from LA radio and since it’s gettin closer to the release date, he’s been dropping all sorts of fun stuff to get people ready.  First, it was a dope mix for Red Bull Music Academy Radio on the heels of his appearance with Blu in Barcelona.  Then it was some video clips over at Okayplayer & Urb.com of him MURDERING samples on the MPC that have to be seen to be believed.

Of course there were a bunch of interviews, one of my favorites being the one CO producer extraordinaire Kid Hum did with him for Basementalism Radio (check the interview link below).  After that, he let Kenny Fresh over at Freshselects.net leak a few songs and I wouldn’t be surprised if more cool shit popped up over the next month.  Anyways, make sure you check out all this great Exile music, definitely check the Blu & Exile “Blu Collar Workers” video that I was involved with earlier this year if you haven’t already & most importantly, do whatever it takes to cop Exile – Radio on 1/20…

Aeon Got Beats Volume 1 & more…

He sure does.  The homie Aeon did “Walk My Way” for Tanya Morgan, the single that won them the Myspace/XM Radio “Show Us What You Got Contest”.  Che Grand’s “Girls Talk”, easily one of my favorite songs/beats of 2008 (I swear every time I play it out somebody, usually a DJ, will run up to the booth on some “oh shit, what’s this?!?!?”), that’s him too.  His Erykah Badu “Honey” remix was all over the most popular music blogs earlier this year & I’m sure his recent Wale “Good Girls” remix is about to do the same, once he sends the MP3 to some other people besides me, DJ Jamad & the Lessondary…lol…(In the meantime, you can stream it over at his blog, Aggregate Dope)…

Aeon & me at XM Studios in D.C.

Anyways, a few weeks back he dropped a free instrumental project called Aeon Got Beats Volume 1 that I’ve been meaning to post up for a while.  Check it out, do whatever you have to do to catch up on the rest of his catalogue & stay tuned for a couple of these unreleased beats he sent me to end up on Mixing In Action #3 sometime in ’09…

Pics from the Family Affair/Estate LA/Rogue Status party I DJed over the weekend…

Last Saturday I DJed the launch party for the Estate LA/Rogue Status pop-up store at Family Affair and man, there were some BEAUTIFUL hats in the spot, along with 2 (a dope snowboard photography exhibit of the photography of Ian Ruther & Cole Barash), a bunch of crazy bikes, a lot of Denver’s fashion heads, free copies of Snowboard Mag and all the usual fresh gear you see at the shop.

Anyways, here are some pics from the opening, check out more at FamilyXAffair.com (that’s the homey Ant from Family Affair playin’ a few songs after a few drinks in the pic on there, I’m in the mirror, laughing my ass off) & if you’re in Denver make sure you come by the Estate LA Pop-Up store before it’s gone forever on New Year’s Eve.

DJ Toomp at the Red Bull Music Academy…Toomp killed this shit (c) Kanye…

DJ Toomp made it out to Barcelona for a RBMA lecture a little while back to talk about “Toomp drums”, getting his start DJing at a skating rink, feeling like a psychologist when he works with rappers, pop lockin with Sleepy Brown in middle school, making one of the first ATL rap records, linking up with Kanye before his rap debut & all sorts of other iddish in a two hour plus interview, check it out over at RedBullMusicAcademy.com, it’s crazy.

Che Grand on Funkadelic Freestyles w/exclusive EGU premiers from back on 11/4…

Back on the fourth, Che Grand (of Fixtape fame) made the trek to D.C. to take in the historic night and premier some new songs off of his possibly soon to be released debut album, Everything’s Good Ugly, on Funkadelic Freestyles radio show.  He played some JAMS in between talkin shit and adding his random thoughts on the election, check it out.

U-N-I & Ro Blvd – A Love Supreme Hour podcast on Urb.com…

First off, I gotta admit I’m biased. Ro Blvd has been a good friend for years and a few days ago I finally linked up with Y-O & Thurzday a.k.a. U-N-I (pause?), grabbing breakfast at 3 am while they were out here in Denver. Anyway, these three cats are good dudes, a part of the crazy new scene that’s popped off over the last few years in LA and after being featured as “Unsigned Hype” in the Source, being called “the new Outkast” in Billboard Magazine, winning “Best LA Breakout Artist” at the MTV VMAs & tons more critical acclaim I guess I’m not the only one who’s a fan.  Their upcoming album, A Love Supreme, is gonna be one of the best to drop in 2009, I promise (check out my preview of the record here).  Anyways, here’s the “A Love Supreme Hour”  podcast they recorded last week for Urb Magazine to give you a taste of the record, a sample of what they’re listening to and hold you over til A Love Supreme drops. Enjoy…

Stop what you’re doing & download the Further Adventures of Von Pea right now…

“This ain’t an LP, it ain’t a mixtape / I don’t know what else to call it other than great” (c) Peezy.  Check it, the homey Von Pea from Tanya Morgan just sent me the public link (I’ve been rockin the demos for a while and this iddish is INCREDIBLE) for his new project, The Further Adventures of Von Pea.  He’s on here CRUSHING Madlib beats left & right, but don’t take my word for it, download it now & hear for yourself (and tell some friends while you’re at it, they’ll thank you).

Bun B at the Red Bull Music Academy…

Bun B is unquestionably the man. Dude helped lay the foundation for the rise of south during the early 90s, raps so trill with his own unique swag & has worked with some of the most respected names in music, from Outkast to Lupe Fiasco to MIA to Scarface to Jigga. This is easily the deepest interview I’ve seen with him, he breaks down the rise of UGK, his musical influences & everything else you’d wanna know at the Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona, check it out at RedBullMusicAcademy.com.

Like hats? Check out this interview with my boy Nai from StrictlyFitteds.com..

I met Nai the first time I visited NYC in 2004. He was workin on a music video with my good friends France & Exile Ramirez (the R&B artist they were shooting it for will remain nameless) and we became instant friends after he heard me playing some then unreleased Foreign Exchange songs on the set and bugged out.  Since then, he got out of the video business and created StrictlyFitteds.com, easily the definitive site for everything hat related.  Check him out as he tells the story and shows off his insane hat collection in this dope NHTVSN interview.

Your Halloween costume isn’t touchin’ the homie Tunji’s….

I’m sooooooo jealous…Check out this video and you will be too…Except the whole diggin’ through the trash part…ahahahahahaha…And make sure you check out Tunji & his group Inverse, they’re super dope and definitely on the come up….
