I’m sorry…I really should talk about Kid Hum – Fossil Fuel more than I do…

I mean, its not like I haven’t featured his projects over the last couple of years, but man, his last joint, Fossil Fuel, was an AMAZING album and charting it #1 (for whatever that’s worth) on my weekly charts when it dropped wasn’t enough, I wanna talk about it some more.  First off, let me give a disclaimer: I’ve known Kid Hum aka DJ Dylon for, I dunno, maybe six years.  I remember when he first linked up with Basementalism Radio Show and would come in on some intern shit, write down the playlists of all the songs me & the other DJs played and take the playlist from the DJ studio to the room the hosts recorded in.  Basementalism had a bunch of different kids (yeah, dude was a definitely a kid when I first met him…LOL) who did this over the years but Kid Hum seemed far more into the records than pretty much any other young cat coming into the station.  With that said, over the last few years I’ve watched dude become a consummate digger and connoisseur of all sorts of random hip hop, breaks & records in general.

I found out Hum was making beats a few years back, I liked his Songster remix iddish and like most of Denver (and the CMJ charts), I thought his 7-song Suicide Watch EP with Whygee, Sunken State & DJ B-Money was one of the best projects to drop in CO in years.  The EP & collection of remixes were a great introduction to Hum’s beats but listening to Fossil Fuel really showed me that he wasn’t just dropping a few good beats here & there, but dude was really crushing it.  For 18 tracks on Fossil Fuel, Dylon/Hum holds my attention better than 99% of instrumental projects using a mix of super dope beats, quirky samples from weird records, drops he collected at Basementalism and maybe a few more robo-drops than necessary (my only “complaint” about the record and a small one at that).  And last but not least, gotta thank Hum for the shout on “Rain”, I must be doing something right…LOL.  Anyways, download Fossil Fuel below, check out the Suicide Watch EP & stay tuned for Offshore Drilling, an upcoming collab between Kid Hum & Rock The Dub featuring a variety of MCs rockin over songs from Fossil Fuel, coming soon.  And oh yeah, buy some Kid Hum beats.
